MICHAEL PAULO

Saxophone

Michael Paulo grew up in a musical family. Though he came upon the sax relatively late at age 15, he was playing professional gigs around Hawaii within a few years. Rather than accept a scholarship to North Texas State, he chose a more adventurous road by joining Hawaiian pop/rock band Kalapana, which was most popular in Japan. Michael moved to L. A. in 1981 and two years later, he caught his big break when Al Jarreau hired him for his touring band. They were touring together for the next decade. In 1988, Michael recorded his first Major solo release ‘One Passion’ which was critically acclaimed as one of the most influential recordings in contemporary jazz. A dynamic live performer he has never failed to capture the hearts of his fans with his emotive playing and endearing style. He spent eight years as an artist in residence at The Java Jazz Festival and produced the Temecula Wine and Music Festival and Pacific Rim Jazz Festival in Hawaii. Over the years, he has added his distinct saxpertise to a virtual who’s who of artists, incl. Miles Davis, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Oleta Adams, Patti Austin, Jeffrey Osborne, Jeff Lorber, David Benoit, Bobby Caldwell and many more. In 2023, he released his single ‘Hang Time’.
